British born artist resident in New York since 2000. The main focus of his oeuvre is the polychromatic nude. He paints with natural and mineral pigments which include azurite and semi-precious lapis lazuli, cinnabar, malachite, stibnite, orpiment and realgar. He makes his own colours from rocks and crystals. His recent work includes gold leaf (wet gilding) both on panels with distemper, tempera and oil paint, or with bistre ink on paper. Since 2000 he has published three papers on the preparation and application of the mineral pigments including the journal 'Leonardo', (MIT-press). The artist also gives workshops on the colours of the Renaissance in his New York studio.
Born Stoke-on-Trent, England. Since 2000 Permanent Residence in New York. 1994-2007:Visits to the Far East. 1977-1999: Resident in Munich, Germany. 1994-1995: 6 month residence in Austin, Texas. 1991-1992: Regular working visits to the Provence, France. 1976-1977: Resident in Rotterdam, Holland.
